Abstract:

Self–reliance means living within one's own means. Nations that rely on their own resources are the ones who earn respect in the world. That is why Allama Iqbal tries to urge the whole Muslim Ummah to be self-reliant. Iqbal especially advises the youngsters to be dynamic and pragmatic. Iqbal desperately wants the young people to recognize their abilities and strengths and conquer the world because the vast expanses of the Earth and the heights of sky are all made for human beings. They should not be indulged and stuck in the routine life and keep their eyes on the infinite ventures. For this, individuals should make the Quran and Hadith their guide, believe in themselves and be active in the exploration and reveal the secrets of life. Iqbal urges individuals to determine their own way instead of following and depending on others. This article seeks to understand Iqbal’s theory of self–reliance in the light of the Quran and Hadith.
